Wu Yize vs. Sean Murphy Final Match

The 2005 champion Murphy has the prestigious title of being The Crucible’s 2005 champion after making a charismatic entrance to Monday’s match. Murphy, being the older player of the two at the age of 41, had begun on a 10 – 7 comeback, netting five frames straight to gain a placed lead of 12-10. Wu was gradually able to take the lead to 13-12, a close match against Murphy as they entered the final session.

Wu during the final session, managed to take the first frame, but Murphy was able to gain a comeback and the match stood at 14 frames. Murphy and Wu then had some gripping contests, matched this time. Murphy placed a frame netting 75, forcing a decider from Wu. Wu, on the other hand, had a frame netting 91 and the Yize comeback also placed a break of 91 forcing Wu.

After playing it safe for a while, Wu blitzed the pack, putting the cue ball where he wanted it for an easy pot behind the pink, followed by an even easier pot on the left, getting up to 64, right-hand pot on the left, won the match, and took the last few seconds for a left-hand pot on the bottom left corner pocket. An 85 up, left the crowd up, staring at the back of Murphy in the stands.

Sean Murphy Reaction After Loss

“I said a while back I would put money on him being a world champion, Murphy said with a sad, cheeky smirk. I just wish it wasn’t today.”

After winning, Wu Yize didn’t show his family or the world any of his real emotions. The only time he made the effort to drop the walls he built, after he won would be to show his family with real emotions he won the junior championship at the age of 14 and left for Sheffield at age 16. The real champions for supper time.
