Arsenal sealed a place in the UEFA Champions League final, for the first time in two decades, with a 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid. Saka struck in front of the Emirates. Mikel Arteta’s side advanced 2-1, winning the aggregate match, thanks to Saka’s first half goal. Three days earlier, the two teams played to a 1-1 draw in Madrid.

The atmosphere was electric even before the game started. Many gathered outside the stadium to welcome the team. The energy was reciprocated during the match, until Atletico Madrid started threatening counters early, with two missed attempts, one from Julian Alvarez and the other from Giuliano Simeone.
Arsenal gained momentum and finally broke the draw in the 44th. Viktor Gyokeres started the break and assisted Leandro Trossard, whose shot was saved and left in the middle of the goal and Saka was quick to achieve the tap in. The Emirates stadium erupted, and Arteta was also ecstatic.
Atletico Madrid’s answer to the goal was pushing and, at times, threatening, for Arsenal it meant the second half of a resilience test. The defense held firm, notably, Gabriel Magalhaes denied the equalizing goal to settle the tension. David Raya’s save of efforts from Antoine Griezmann left a dent in Atletico’s hopes for a comeback.
This was a big win for Arsenal. The last time they made it to the Champions League final was in 2006. That year, they lost to Barcelona. Arsenal has an impressively long history, but they’ve never won the Champions League. The only European trophies in their cabinet came from the 1994 Cup Winners’ Cup and the 1970 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.
Right now, Arteta and Arsenal have the chance to make history. They will face PSG or Bayern Munich in the final. PSG has the advantage going into the second leg of the semifinals and will be in a good position to win the Champions League.
Domestically, Arsenal has the chance to win a historic double. They currently lead the Premier League and have a good chance to win. The only teams left for them to face in the Premier League are West Ham, Burnley and Crystal Palace.
Arteta is now in a position to prove his dedication to Champions League glory.
